The Beginning
Notanobo was founded in 2017. At the time, Not Another Bookkeeper seemed too long so we went with a clever acronym. We never thought that Notanobo would be hard to pronounce but needless to say, we were very wrong.

The Menu?

Notanobo stands for Not Another Bookkeeper. Acronyms aside, it became our mission. We wanted bookkeeping to be simple and seamless... So business owners could spend their time growing and running their businesses.
As we grew, clients started asking for more. They wanted help understanding their numbers, support around decisions and planning around what came next. So, naturally, we helped.
The funny part? We were stubborn. We thought we were a bookkeeping company, so we treated those conversations like a secret menu. If you knew to ask, we'd happily help. We just never thought to put it on the menu.
As we grew, clients started asking for more. They wanted help understanding their numbers, support around decisions and planning around what came next. So, naturally, we helped.

The Realization

For a long time... We thought the problem was bad bookkeeping. That's why Notanobo existed. But numbers tell a story and after reviewing hundreds and hundreds of financial statements we noticed something different. Our clients had clean books but some grew, some floundered and some failed.
The bookkeeping mattered, but it wasn't the whole story.
Looking back, we'd already started helping clients beyond the books. Those conversations had become some of the most valuable work we did. We just hadn't connected the dots yet.
The businesses most likely to succeed weren't just collecting monthly financial reports. They had the right support around the numbers. Someone helping them understand what was happening, spotting issues early and thinking through the decisions ahead.
The thing is, finance has always been defined by roles. You have a bookkeeper. You have an accountant. You have a CFO. Each one owns a piece of the puzzle. The problem is that business owners don't experience their businesses in pieces. They experience the whole thing all at once. They wonder if they can afford to hire, why cash is tight, whether a new location makes sense, or if the business is actually becoming more profitable.
What they need is the whole picture. And while modern bookkeeping software provides more data than ever before, data isn't the same thing as clarity.
We realized bookkeeping isn't the destination. It's the foundation. Once the foundation is in place, owners need visibility into what's happening in the business and clarity about what to do next.

The Rename
For years, some of our best work lived on the secret menu. It wasn't advertised. It wasn't packaged. It was simply how we helped the clients who asked.
In 2025, we decided it was time to stop keeping it a secret, we finally embraced the name we'd been carrying all along: Not Another Bookkeeper.
